This year our teachers are Sue, Carrie, Hattie, Ingrid, and Phyllis. In the second grade, our 7 to 8 year olds are focusing on earning our Bibles. They earn their Bibles by memorizing Bible verses throughout the year so that they might begin to study the Bible on their own and build a relationship with the Lord. The children earn a sticker for every section of verses they memorize. In addition to a weekly memory verse, they memorize John 3:16, the Christmas Story, the Lord’s Prayer, and the 23rd Psalm. In May when they are all finished with the memory verses, there is a special ceremony in the sanctuary in the 9:30 am service to present each child with their Bibles.
Each Sunday morning they start with a craft at 9:15 am, which helps the children learn their verse, until about 10:00 am. After craft time, they go into their assigned classrooms to hear the Bible Story that supports the verse with an example from the Bible. At 10:20 am the children go outside for group worship, which consists of music and prayer, and a review of their lesson. They are dismissed at 10:45 am to their waiting parents.
On the last Sunday of every month, they have a birthday celebration for the birthdays of the month. They have snacks for the kids after group worship. Make sure your child is there, so they won’t miss out on all the action!
If your child has a learning disability, please notify the Department Leader, Sue, by coming into class and talking with her, so that we can help your child earn his or her Bible.
